CAPE ARKONA ARRIVES IN FREMANTLE

Cape Arkona Arrives Fremantle Austral Fisheries

Austral Fisheries have welcomed the arrival of its newest vessel, Cape Arkona, which reached Fremantle on Monday morning after 44 days at sea transitting from Måløy, Norway.

The vessel, which uniquely combines auto-line, potting and trawling, will set new standards for multi-purpose fishing operations.

In line with Austral’s sustainability commitments, an emphasis has been put on environmentally friendly and future-oriented solutions. The Cape Arkona was designed by Skipskompetanse, with the hull constructed by Marine Projects in Gdansk, before being transported to Båtbygg in Måløy for completion.

Planning and designs for the vessel first began in late 2016, with construction beginning in 2018.

It has been a long road to completion, and the COVID-19 pandemic provided its own challenges for Båtbygg and Austral’s staff involved with the build as the vessel neared completion.

It has been a monumental team effort to get the vessel designed, built and delivered back to Fremantle. Austral Fisheries would like to say a huge congratulations to all involved in the project. Special mention to the Southern Fleet team – Pete, Janine, Theo, Greg and the whole crew for a huge effort over several years.
