On Sunday evening in Port Lincoln, Austral Fisheries were lucky enough to come away with a national award as well as having two members be inducted into the National Seafood Industry Hall of Fame.
This prestigious event, held as part of the Australian Seafood Industry National Conference, Seafood Directions, celebrates and recognises the outstanding positive achievements made by individuals, businesses or agencies towards improving the Australian seafood industry.
On the back of the WA award received in July, Austral went on to win in the same category in the national awards, taking out the Australian Seafood Industry Promotion Award, which is presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking a promotion activity that has contributed substantially towards improving the public profile of seafood and/or the seafood industry.
This was achieved largely through the fact that all the Australian fisheries in which we operate are now MSC certified, as well as Austral personally advertising some of the good news stories that come out of the fishing industry in the Weekend Australian magazine. Finally, it was the launch of our branded MSC certified sustainable Glacier 51 toothfish fillet and the attention it is receiving on a local and international scale that got us over the line.
Also, in recognition of their substantial positive contribution and selfless service to the seafood industry over many years, along with outstanding personal and leadership qualities, former winners of the WA Michael Kailis Leadership Award, the late Theo Kailis (founder of Austral Fisheries) and David Carter (Austral Fisheries CEO) were inducted to the National Seafood Industry Hall of Fame.
