Austral Fisheries’ Extensive Refit of FV Eubalaena Complete

Austral Fisheries FV Eubalaena

After 10 weeks of extensive refitting and refurbishing to the vessel’s system and appearance, the Eubalaena is back on the water! Here’s a breakdown of the main areas that have been improved:

:
Refurbishments to the amenities and cabin areas will make being at sea for extended periods of time more comfortable.

, :
We’ve installed a new gearbox and shaft, as well as a new Tier 11 Genset to decrease emissions and improve performance. The engine room has had a makeover with new pumps, LED lighting and refrigeration systems serviced and reconditioned.

:
The addition of a new circulating refrigerated brine system and separate refrigeration will improve fish handling and quality. The new brine system will handle 2T of tropical snappers chilled to zero degrees in 6 hours, thus improving quality and freshness.

, :
The vessel has had an upgrade in fish finding electronics with a new sonar fitted, new fish detecting transducers and upgrades to all 3D bottom-mapping systems. These tools will give our two highly experienced skippers the opportunity to explore some of the deeper waters of the fishery.
