Austral’s General Manager – Northern Prawn Fishery, Andy Prendergast (pictured), spoke to the ABC this week about the challenges of mothership ‘Sea Swift’ departing the NPF just two weeks before the 2023 tiger prawn season opened.

Mr Prendergast said it marked a new challenge and period of change in an industry where margins were already tight.
“I’d like to think that we can, as an industry at some point, deliver these services to ourselves and save money at the same time,” he said.
“There’s always challenges in front of us [and] we always seem to find our way through.”
